Dear AIIS Member,
Your help is needed to assure Senate approval this Thursday of important Customs legislation!
The Senate is likely to vote this Thursday (February 11) on very important legislation, the conference report of the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act (H.R. 644) that goes to the heart of key AIIS public policy priorities relating to expediting trade, and making it less expensive, and with fewer burdensome regulations.
Among the key Customs and other improvements contained in this bipartisan legislation are provisions to modernize Customs and Border Protection’s (CPB) automated systems, and to make further progress toward the development of a “single window”, so that cross-border traders can fulfill all U.S. Government import and export requirements through a single contact point, or window. These improvements will result in real costs savings that will help make the United States more internationally competitive. By facilitating trade, especially trade through our ports, these provisions will also help secure port-related jobs and wages.
We request that you contact your Senator (contact information below) and ask them to vote FOR the conference report of the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act (H.R. 644).
How to contact your Senator:
–Ask the operator to connect you with your Senator’s office. If you don’t know who your Senator is, ask to be connected to a Senator from your state.
–When your call is connected to your Senator’s office, say that you strongly urge your Senator to vote for the conference report of the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act (H.R. 644).
Your voice matters. Senators place a high value on phone calls to their offices, and such calls are closely tracked.
I am attaching a copy of a summary of the legislation that was prepared by the House Ways and Means Committee.
